This is the video that Julia and her friends worked on last weekend. Please feel free to comment (on youtube), they are getting a kick of watching the "views", likes and comments increase. I made them re-name their channel - so I set them back about 70 views - bad mom.
This is from the series the Hunger Games. I'll post more later, I just wanted to get this posted for you.
Been up for a while at this point. Not quite sure why. I have been playing some mean games of Gin Rummy over at games.com. I think it could even be said that I kicked some computer ass!
I used to go online and play LINGO. That was a fun game too - especially when Bryan and I would sign on and play against each other. But I can't ever find the old LINGO anymore. They've re-tooled that website.
Don't know why I'm boring you all with this drivel about games, just seems to be what was on my mind I guess. I could have written about the 4th. That was a fun weekend, but nothing really earth shattering or particularly fun to share.
oooh - except that I burned the fool out of my back. Yep. Not that this is fun to report, but funny and may make you laugh. I lotioned up everywhere but couldn't reach my back. And there was no spray sunscreen around. Everyone was on the boat tubing so I didn't think it'd be a big deal to wait for a while - I was just in the chair reading. Then I forgot to ask anyone when they came back to lotion me up. But I was still mostly in the chair reading. Guess is doesn't provide as much SPF as a good 'ol T-shirt does cause I am FRIED. Cocoa Butter actually soothes it pretty well.
Last night was the last swim meet of the season. We only won 2 meets this season. But that's to be expected with a roster of only 57 swimmers. Last year we had over 80. And when everyone's at camp and your numbers are down in the 30's for meets, you just have a bunch of holes in your heat sheet and there's no way to win. The children that have been swimming have been doing a great job though. And our coaches are fantastic.
One of them has called Julia, "Julia Gulia" since she started the team in the 6 and under age group (reference to a character from The Wedding Singer and what her name will be when she gets married). Anyway, he and Julia want to register as Julia Gulia next year. That will be pretty funny until she goes and has a city record with back stroke or something and gets listed in the paper and the record books forever as Julia Gulia. But kind of a funny thing, none the less.
I think tonight may be the first night I actually prepare supper (more than the left overs and yummy casseroles everyone brought us after the surgery). I'm craving Mexican, so I may do burritos, I may have a taco night. We'll see. Pretty sad that at 6:30 in the morning I'm already day dreaming about supper.
I'll come up with some better topics later - right now I'm going to go lay back in bed until Bryan gets up. He's been getting up pretty early lately, so by the time I get there it may be no time in bed at all.
Have a great day everyone. Oh, in case you haven't seen it already, enjoy the little you tube parody that T-Pain did with Taylor Swift at the CMA's to help fulfill her dream of rapping with T-Painl Pretty Funny!
THE Concert was last night. You remember, Taylor Swift. And I'm sure you've all read reviews, so I won't get lengthy here, but I wanted to put my "Two Snaps up in a Circle" for the girl.
I haven't seen lots of concerts - 10 maybe. I'll rank her in the top 3 to 5. She was a true performer, involved the crowd - sounded great, made about 20 (it seemed anyway) outfit changes, walked the length of the crowd - IN the crowd - touching and hugging her fans. Great theatrics, great staging. GREAT. GREAT. GREAT! She was in Three words "FAB. U. LUS.". Seriously. The 19 year old delivered!
I say I would even go to see her again if given the opportunity! Count me a fan.
No real time for writing lately - lots of after school activities and plenty to keep me busy during the days. Things are going well - 19 days til the big 40! Can you believe it.
Today I'm taking my son to get some dark spots on his skin looked at. Hopefully I'll be told they are just moles or freckles. But, skin cancer runs in his Daddy's side of the family - so I want to be safe. We're also going to get multiple warts taken care of. I'm really nervous for him on this. He has many on his "sucking" thumb", another on the other thumb, and a few others just kind of around - on a wrist, etc. I'm thinking 6 will be gone. And that only counts the conglomerate of them on his sucking thumb once - that whole knuckle looks like one big wart.
So, if anyone has some extra time to say a little prayer today, please say one for Legare. That we can get these ugly warts gone with little pain - that he will be brave and not hurt. That these brown spots are nothing major. I'm really nervous about today's appointment. You know, it's my baby going to the doctor - the mommy mode is kicking in. Maybe a little prayer for my peace would be in line too.
Legare has been so brave lately - the little guy has given up desserts and candy for Lent. He's had a few really big temptations, but he has done very well. You would all be so impressed; he does love his "baked goods and candy".
Julia is in a talent show on Friday. Singing a Taylor Swift song. SOLO. And doing a cute, shorter rendition of Evolution of Dance with some classmates. The 8th grade sponsors the show as a fundraiser and the 8th grade teacher heard her practicing yesterday and told her that he had no idea that such a wonderful voice was down there inside of her. She was really excited about that compliment. I'm sure I'll have some pictures for you (if I can remember the camera).
I'll also be attending the opening gala (flip flop casual - yay) at the newly renovated Holiday Inn on Folly Beach this Thursday. The renovations are fantastic. Windows (walls of windows) were added so that you could actually see the ocean from the lobby and restaurant, and it's decorated in an art deco kind of style. People are saying it could fit in at South Beach. If you're that way, you should definitely check it out. Eat at the new restaurant, Blu. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and will be hosting a big Sunday brunch soon. I've already eaten there twice and the food is yummy and the atmosphere is great!
update: Appointment went well - no skin cancer! A cream-type medicine went on 10 warts (7 on the sucking thumb alone) that should blister in a few days and cause them to dry up and slough off. NO BURNING! YAY...prayers answered! We go back in 3 weeks to see if we need to do it one more time.
But I laugh and laugh. I know, I have a sick sense of humor. But this really did make me laugh hard - with the picking on 80's club music and fashion, and the way these guys place blame. It's hilarious. And this one should be around for a while - it's by the guys who are in the video (Andy Samberg and Jorma Toccone) it's theirs, not SNL's. Their comedy group is called "The Lonely Island".
Before you watch this, please, get all small ears away. Get them out of earshot. This is your fair warning - no kids. Seriously, please don't complain later because you can't believe I posted this - go no further if you don't want your children or yourself to partake in a hilarious SNL digital short entitled "Jizz in My Pants". No bad words, just don't know if you want to explain it.
There are now two paragraphs of warning. If you're still reading I take it you're ok with this. Good. Laugh and enjoy. And look for the Molly Sims cameo as the girl in the club, the Justin Timberlake cameo as he helps with the clean up on aisle 3, and Meadow Soprano (aka Jamie-Lynn Sigler) behind the check out counter at the grocery.
I have loved Justin Timberlake since the last time he was on SNL and did the "Cup o Soup" and "*&$@# in the Box" skits. Who am I kidding? That whole episode was hilarious. I still have it on my tivo and just watched it again last night not even knowing about this most recent funny (I must have gone to sleep too soon the night it aired). I even posted the "&$@# in a Box" video here on a previous "youtube" funny on the blog. But youtube pulls these SNL videos as fast as they show up. So sadly there's nothing to watch anymore on the "&$@# in the box" post. (after posting I looked for it again and found it - so you can go see it now on the original post about it by clicking here.
Well, below is the most recent time JT was on SNL. He and they guys were backup dancers for Beyonce in leotards and high heels. Seriously working it! Check it out quick before it gets pulled. (told you it would get pulled. I had help finding it somewhere else - so for now, we can still see it).
Everyone knows how much I love to laugh. People that get me laughing every time are the guys from The Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Those guys really crack me up!
I will admit, that at first I was not at all interested in watching Jeff Foxworthy and a bunch of countrified guys. I don't know why - I guess I was tired of the "You might be a redneck" stuff from the late 80's and early 90's. I got to meet Mr. Foxworthy in the early 90's. He was a luncheon speaker for a conference I attended in Atlanta. Afterwards I chatted with him and he was a true gentleman and nice guy. And funny too. But I just wasn't interested in seeing him and his friends in the Blue Collar Comedy Tour.
Then I caved. And I loved it!
One of the guys, Bill Engvall, has a little saying: "Here's yer sign!" Which basically means, you just asked the most ridiculous question ever (or you just did the most ridiculous thing ever), and you need an "I'm stupid" sign to warn everyone in the future.
We all do these little things. Watch this video to get a good understanding of what he means.
Well, last weekend I had a pretty funny one happen. I was watching Legare at his football Jamboree on Saturday. Clemson had a home game (which my husband and daughter were attending), and while at the Jamboree, one of the momma's saw me and exclaimed with much surprise (and not at all as if this was a rhetorical question or a bewildered statement; but like she was telling me in case I didn't know), "Oh, Anne, you're not in Clemson." Truly she was trying to tell me because she clearly wasn't sure if I was aware of this. It sounded funny to my ear.
My Momma replies (or was it my Daddy) something along the lines of, "Oh she is in Clemson, this person just looks like Anne." And then under Momma's breath she muttered a "here's your sign".
O.K. that didn't come across as funny in print as it was in person and in my head. So to make up for that - here's another Engvall "Here's Your Sign" video clip. And another audio clip.
Start paying attention to what you say and what is said around you. You'll be surprised at how many signs need to be handed out.
O.K...not really. But my son is playing his first year of tackle football. And ever since he got his helmet and his shoulder pads, I've been constantly saying "My helmet an dem shoulerma pads".
I've also explained to him how the most important piece of equipment is called the cup. And it ain't....
Oh, you've never heard that comedy routine before? Well we loved this routine in high school. All of us recited it all the time and the first time we saw it, we laughed until our stomach's hurt. Back then we didn't have youtube so I had to wait for it to run again on HBO so I could record it on our VCR (remember those?) to watch it repeatedly. I think we still have that tape actually (or Mom and Dad do I should say).
While we were waiting on the storm that never happened last week (Hurricane Hanna), I went to youtube to see if I could find it so that we could all have a good laugh. Luckily Mom and Dad were here so that I could ask them the name of the comedian. I knew it was "Bob", but I couldn't remember his last name, "Nelson". We all watched it again with the same laughter as years past. I did share it with my children (cuss words muted - because you see - I still know it word for word and knew right when to hit the mute button).
But now that we have youtube I get to see it any time I want. And since I haven't had a youtube funny in a few weeks I thought I would share Bob Nelson's "Football Routine" with you now. This is the whole routine...the football part starts around the 2 minute mark. But I promise that it's all worth it. You could call it an "Ode to Football Season".
Thank you guys so much for stroking my ego on the last post. I'll be sure to return the favor.
On to the next post topic: Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen.
My husband and I were able to see The Boss in concert last Saturday night. Clients and their wives were being entertained by the legal team (and because of this I was included) and a good time was had by all. We were treated to a chauffeured limo ride to and from the concert. I highly recommend this mode of transportation to concerts. You get to usurp the traffic and head straight to the limo drop off and then your ride is waiting for you front and center outside when you're finished. Again moving straight to the front of the traffic upon departure.
I will have to admit - I enjoy Bruce Springsteen songs but have never given a second thought about seeing him in concert. The Dancing in the Dark video with short haired Courtney Cox was the thing that was all the rage when I was an early teenager; even then I still only kind of liked him. I certainly didn't wig out like I did for Duran Duran (who I saw in concert as a Freshman in High School - good times!!).
I also don't like him like I do U2. Knowing all of the words, crying at the start of the concert, crying intermittently as various songs are sung, etc., etc. And all of that crying was done by me as an adult and parent; you'd think I'd be past the crying at concerts stage.
The Boss was very impressive though. He sounded great and he had a ton of audience interaction. One cool thing he did was take posters from the fans in the pit - each with a song written on it - and take requests from the pile he made. He would sift through them and choose one, show it to the crowd (on the big screens for those of us not in the front row), and then play. He even signed one and gave it back to the fan who claimed on the poster that it was her birthday.
He chatted with the fans seated behind the stage, he pulled up a cute little kid from the audience to sing with him, and he dangled his legs off the side of the stage on several occasions while he was seated and singing. All in all, a great concert that I truly enjoyed. The most impressive thing was that he sang for almost 3 1/2 hours straight. No breaks! I swear I felt sweaty for him. Except that I was actually a bit chilly. Lucky for him they had the coliseum cooled down A LOT. It was an "Are you sure we weren't not at a hockey game?" kind of cold.
It was even a thrill seeing Stevie Van Zandt . You probably know him as Silvio on "The Sopranos", but he is also a member of the "E Street Band". And has been since the 70's. Because I don't know much about Bruce or his E Street Band I didn't know this until I saw Stevie on stage and thought to myself - "Self, I think I know that guy".
But the thing that really left me feeling like I had been cheated a bit... Left me wanting more... Made me feel like there was an elephant hiding in the room... Was the GLARING omission of "Born in the USA". Doesn't everyone who goes to see Bruce want to hear this song? Is it not the song that EVERYONE knows? I thought so too.
So anyway I Googled it, as I always do, and got a little insight on the Wikipedia website. In short - this song was not written to be a patriotic song - it was written from the point of view of a Vietnam Veteran returning home having some hardships. In the near past Bruce has sung melancholy acoustic versions and has even sung re-tooled versions that many people haven't even recognized as "Born in the USA". So he may have sung it and I (we) just didn't catch it. Hhmmpphh
Oh well - I still wanted to hear the 1980's version of Born in the USA - pretending like it was all patriotic in this Olympic summer (Phelps got his 8th gold Saturday night). Even though I feel cheated I can understand him omitting it until semi-fans like me understand the proper meaning behind this song. I certainly had never really listened to the words to know that it was not about us all being proud of being "Born in the USA". Did you? Oh sad, I'm slow on the uptake again.
I have a hatred for.... ...no, I have a strong dislike for the fame created for teeny boppers by Disney. Let me give a for instance - something about Hannah Montana drives me nuts. I can't stand her character on the show and her real persona (Miley Cyrus - who I've seen in interviews) just rubs me the wrong way.
So - when my daughter started talking about the Jonas Brothers and how they were going to be in the Disney Movie, "Camp Rock", I gave her the "eh whatever" thought in my head. If Disney was cranking out another group of teeny bopper, Prima Donna's I didn't care.
Then I started enjoying this song on the radio one day. Julia laughed and asked if I liked it. I sure did. And I was bowled over when she let me in on the fact that it was the Jonas Brothers. Well there was no way that I could like them - I don't like "Disney" bands, remember.
Then I had to admit to my husband that I thought I liked the Jonas Brothers. And of course we Googled and IMDB'd them. And I was pleasantly suprised to find that they weren't created by Disney. They already were when Disney grabbed a hold of them. They sometimes collaborate with others to write their songs, but they write their own songs. They also know how to play guitar, base, piano and drums. And they play them on stage - sometimes more than one per Brother per performace.
So, it's official, I'm a Jonas Brother's fan. I even know some of the words to some of their songs. And because of this I officially need to grow up. Cause people get in trouble all around the world for liking "youngins". However - Joe's birthday is on Friday and he'll be 19. That's o.k. right? And Kevins going to be 21 this year.
Maybe it's not o.k. that I know this birthday information. But it is o.k. for me to have a tiny little crush on Joe now that we know he's going to be 19. I only know when his birthday is because I heard them talk about it as we tuned into Live with Regis and Kelley this morning to see them. Well, so that my children could watch them of course.
And poor Nick - he either has a cold, or his voice is changing.
(pre post edit) I just shared this post with my daughter. Earlier I stated that I "know the words to several of their songs". And she started laughing. She said, "Several of their songs??!!!!??" And then asked which songs I knew besides "Burnin' Up" - as she continued to laugh. So I changed it to read "some of the words to some of their songs" - even though I know ALL of the words to Burnin' Up. But I do know some words to others - I really do. I just can't tell you what they are.
And here - you enjoy this song from the cute Jonas Brothers. They even show they have a cute sense of humor in this video. Very likable guys. Oh, Joe's the one in the white pants who dons the fake mustache. (Nick is the one in the red boat and Kevin is the martial arts guy. Just in case you needed to know. Scary that I do.)
I am pasting a snippet from the latest Country Club events email. If this isn't funny to you, you didn't watch enough Beavis and Butthead in the 80's.
STAG NIGHT
Thursday, June 19th 7:30pm in the Men's Card Room with Grilled Chicken, Burgers, Cobbler, Ping Pong, and Cornhole for $10.95++. Call the Golf Shop at ###-#### to sign up.
Needless to say, I couldn't help but remembering what Beavis and Butthead think a Cornhole is. And knowing this, I couldn't imagine that most men who will be attending are really looking forward to "Cornhole" at their Stag Night. (Those two things just don't sound right together.)
Is Cornhole something they eat? Or something they will be playing? I only know what Beevis and Butthead would think they were messing with, and it kind of makes me giggle. And being that this is a reputable club, I can't imagine it's that!
Well my curiosity has gotten the better of me. I know this must be something that is all the rage, and I just have missed the boat somehow.
So I Google it (I Google everything).
Turns out, it's a game, and you can order one (lawn variety or table top variety) off of many different sites on the Internet. It seems that we all played some Cornhole growing up. We just called it the "Bean Bag Toss".
My Google search has even unearthed a YouTube song in honor of this game. In this video they have "Custom Cornhole Boards" that can be ordered from the site at the link above. They even offer their thanks to AJJCornhole for their custom boards at the end of their little video.
I wonder if the Country Club has custom boards? hhmm...
Anyway, hope you had a good laugh. If you haven't giggled yet, you are sure to giggle thanks to this beauty of a song video. Check it...
Following is our new favorite You Tube funny. We just search funny animals, funny children, movie out takes. Anything funny when we're bored and want a good laugh. This clip is pretty darned funny! Hope you enjoy.
Its title on You Tube is "Blood". There's a longer version that show the set up....big brother and little brother have been "wrestling" on the bed. Big brother's head has hit baby in the mouth. No crying - just blood. This is what big brother has to say about it all.
O.K. I don't really think you're gay. But I am pretty good at knowing that other people are gay thanks to my summers spent interning with Spoleto.
But onto the real reason I'm posting tonight. Top Gun. This movie was my first date movie with my sweet husband Bryan. About 22 years ago now (remember -we were in high school). Scary.
Loved the movie! Loved Tom Cruise (now I'm thinking he may be just a wee bit strange - not because of this movie, but because of his deal with "Kate"). And Now...........Quintin Tarantino thinks of this movie as "Gay Top Gun".
Well. He does offer up a pretty convincing argument. You decide for yourself. Give it a few seconds for the picture to show. It gets there at about 11 seconds. beware - lots of "f" Bombs dropped by Tarantino. No Kids Allowed.
I "click" the Next Blog button sometimes to see what's out there. Unfortunately the blogs are usually Asian or Spanish, and written in a language I can't read much less tell what the letters are.
Every now and then I'll hit one that I enjoy being voyeuristic with and read a bit. Once you find one and read for a while, you find yourself clicking their links, and you never know what you'll find.
This is what I found today, and I had to replicate it for you because it made me laugh out loud. And laughing is one of my favorite things to do.
This is Matt Damon on the Letterman show doing an impersonation of Matthew McConaughey. HILARIOUS!
This is the house with the Red Tin Roof. We lived here when the blog got started. I named the blog because the posts were about how life happened "under the red tin roof". We still own her, but she's now a weekend or country home. We don't frequent her as much as we should but we love her all the same. The picture at the title is a zoomed in view out to the edge of the yard. I hope that my posts put a smile on your face or make you chuckle a bit. Laughter is a good medicine for whatever ails you.
